Homeopathy is a medical approach devised by Samuel Hahnemann in 1796. It was based on the ancient principle of ‘like cures like’. Homeopaths analyse and assess disturbances in health, then endeavour to find the appropriate medication which will rebalance the symptoms.

Treatment

Homeopaths have over 2000 remedies to consider. These may be used in emergency first aid situations, therapeutically to aid recovery from everyday complaints or at a deeper level when chronic illness has taken over.

Treatment is based on the individual’s response to their complaint. People can react in different ways to the same illness, so we need to understand as much as possible about you and how your symptoms affect you. Rather than treat the disease we look at the totality of the person: the mind, emotions and physical expressions of the imbalance. Seeing the whole picture enables us to determine the correct remedy in the right dosage for you. By determining your overall constitution we can strengthen your resistance to disease and help give you a feeling of wellbeing.

Medication will either be prescribed and given at the end of the consultation or, if more time is needed for analysis, you will receive your remedy within a few days by post.

Safety

Homeopathy is safe and effective. The main aim is to gently restore health and vitality.

The consultations

The first consultation will last 60-90 minutes and will form the basis for the therapeutic relationship between you and your homeopath, based on mutual trust and respect. You will be asked questions about your chief complaint and state of wellbeing; also about your life and your family.

A minimum of two sessions will be required and in many cases more sessions will be needed at varying intervals. The homeopath will assess your progress and response to the remedy, which may change as treatment is ongoing. These changes can be dramatic or subtle and need to be assessed as they develop. Short interim consultations can be made if support is needed while the remedy process is working.
